Quick Glance: Magnitude 4.8 Earthquake Rocks New York City and Northeast US
- An unusual East Coast earthquake startled millions from New York to rural New England. Over 42 million people may have felt the midmorning quake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8.
- While causing no widespread damage, the earthquake led to evacuations in Newark, New Jersey, and infrastructure inspections across the region. Flights were diverted, trains slowed, and tunnel traffic stopped.
- Although no major damages were reported, the earthquake caused some disruptions. The area near the epicenter experienced minor effects, including the collapse of a historic site. There were also over a dozen aftershocks reported in the region.
- President Joe Biden offered assistance, while New York City reported no major safety or infrastructure issues. Engineers emphasized that New York skyscrapers are made of high-strength materials and designed to sway slowly to withstand impacts. Even the delicately placed eggs in a sculpture at a Chinatown art gallery remained unharmed during the quake.

Quick Glance: Exxon predicted climate change but denied it in four ways.
- 3. Exxon anticipated when the world will become aware of the implications of climate change.
- 4. The commissioned studies accurately predicted the amount of CO2 that would cause catastrophic climate change.
- Carbon dioxide levels have remained below 300 parts per million for the majority of human history.
- While the Paris Climate Agreement, which resolved to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius by 2050, did not set a limit on carbon dioxide parts per million, another United Nations report found that 450 parts per million would give humanity a 50% chance of staying below the Paris temperature threshold.

Quick Glance: The US Supreme Court's EPA verdict is terrible, but here's why all is not lost.
- Carbon dioxide contributes to climate change, making it a dangerous air pollutant.
- The Supreme Court severely limits the EPA's ability to regulate greenhouse-gas emissions that cause climate change.
- According to the EPA judgement today, the current Clean Air Act can only directly control coal facilities.
- The Supreme Court has erected unnecessary impediments to clean energy adoption at a time when we should be focusing on addressing the climate problem.
