During a press conference in Pune, Jaishankar stated that historically, India and China had not stationed troops on the Line of Actual Control, instead positioning their forces away from it on their respective sides.

A senior police officer in Leh highlighted in a research paper last January that India had lost access to 26 out of 65 patrolling points in the eastern Ladakh region.

Border tensions between India and China have intensified since June 2020, following a significant clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh. This incident resulted in the loss of 20 Indian soldiers at various points along the Line of Actual Control.
